The truth is, reheating is not rocket science. If you want to heat it before you eat it, choose your favorite source of heat, and apply. Of course, we don’t recommend blow torches, but if you’re in a pinch…
Seriously, if you’re starving or in a hurry, the microwave is clearly the fastest method. Simply heat to your desired temp (Food code is 160 degrees at center) and chow down. Of course, the microwave is way better for soups than it is for meat, veggies, and noodles. It doesn’t always cook evenly, so you’ll have to suffer through those hot and cold spots. Plus, it can really affect the texture of the food; we’ve all had microwaved dry chicken and rubbery veggies.
A good rule of thumb for reheating is heat it using the same method as it was cooked. If it was cooked on a stovetop, warm it on a stovetop. If it was cooked in an oven, reheat it in an oven. For instance, soups or saucy pasta dishes can be reheated in a pan similar to what they were prepared in. Baked dishes like lasagna, casseroles, veggies, and hot dishes warm up well in the oven. And don’t be afraid to add a little oil, broth, or water to help retain the juices and texture.
