The More Things Change…
With road construction set to begin later this month, we’ve been thinking a lot about how much this area has changed over the years. And honestly, it’s made us a little nostalgic for simpler times, too.
While our own memories don’t stretch back 80-plus years, the stories definitely do. We can only imagine what Billy’s Dad and Mike (Quast) were discussing when this snapshot was taken back in the day.
Here’s a quick Hagberg’s history lesson.
Hagberg’s Country Market, or as many know us, “The Meat Place” has been part of the Lake Elmo community since 1938. Today, Billy and Melissa Hagberg proudly run the store that Billy’s grandparents, Ray and Olga, purchased nearly a century ago.
Back in 1972, Billy’s parents, Bill and Pat, moved the store from Lake Elmo Avenue in Lake Elmo to its current home along the ever-changing Cty Rd 14 also known as Stillwater. Blvd. N. Surrounded by farm fields at the time, it was the perfect spot for the fresh meats and produce that would become a Hagberg’s tradition.
A lot has changed since then, but one thing hasn’t: our commitment to this community. As Lake Elmo continues to grow and evolve, we’re proud to be a connection to its past, and even more excited to be a delicious part of its future.
